Rancho tilapia farm construction

<Prototype water tank for experimenting tilapia farming>

As part of Self-support Ministry, we are currently constructing a tilapia farm at Salvador farm. We have completed the prototype of a 2-ton water tank to experiment the reliability of tilapia farming. It is known to be able to produce 2 to 3.5 tons of tilapia per a water tank. We have built the two-ton water tank, which is a minimum size, to experiment the tilapia farming. We have ordered total 64 water tanks on September 25. (50 for full-grown fish, 14 for fry) The construction was started in November 2007, targeting the completion by October 2008. The construction had been delayed by continuous rains that had prevented the leveling job. We are currently constructing the water path to draw water to the tanks.

We project to produce the first set of tilapia by April 2009. Tilapia farming requires one month for growing fry and then about 5 months to produce fully grown tilapias. Once the construction is done, we expect to achieve the production rate of 200 tons of tilapia per year. This tilapia business, in co-operation with Dr. Octabio, initially targets the Chiapas market. We are hopeful to succeed in this business to help our Self-support ministry.
