June 2023 Summary

Each month brings many surprises, however, June has exceeded our expectations giving us an exceptional summer after years of restrictions due to Covid-19.

Dia de la Familia (Family Day)

On June 1st the Parent’s Comitee of MS and HS prepared a sport event where families of our students were invited to join to play basketball, soccer, pull the rope, kayak and a 3km marathon. During the event the comitee prepared snacks to sell and collect money to build more benches where students can enjoy their lunch time and families can use during visit days. Points were recorded for each game to announce the winners of each category at the end of the event. It is lovely to see parents coming together to spend time with their children engaging in different activities.

Fathers Meet Up – Job presentation

In honor of June being Father’s Month, the fathers of our Elementary School joined us throughout the month to introduce about their jobs and career overall, some showed pictures, videos, brought their own tools, we even had the chance to see a truck from the inside. Thank you to all fathers who took the time to share their experiences and advices for our little ones and doing their best to exercise fatherhood with love and care.

High School Graduation

Given that Ichthus is currently under 2 different education systems, our High School graduation happened first. This event took place on June 10th and since we have to keep some measures in order to avoid Covid-19 the event was prepared exclusively for our graduate’s parents and 2 extra guests. Decorations and snacks were provided by the parents and our school prepared Bibles to hand out as graduation presents and cake to celebrate the event.

During the ceremony Mr.Lee gave a speech on vision and following their dreams always fixing our eyes in Christ. After each student received their diploma, roses were handed to the students in order to give those to their parents as a symbol of thankfulness for all their support. To conclude our ceremony we all joined in prayer for their future and blessed their life.

As part of our tradition at Ichthus, our dorm students and teachers lined up and waited for each graduated to go pass by and give them our last goodbye.

Lots of tears were shed and many hugs were given in this bittersweet moment which concludes a stage in our students life and opens up the road for their future ahead.

English Camp 2023 and Mission Trips

This year we were happy to welcome many visitors all the way from the USA!

Pastor Jey Kim put up a great team of people all over from the USA to lead a month of English Camp at Ichthus! This team was led by no other than our beloved Gloria Kim who was in charge of planning the whole month filled with different activities for our students to not only learn and practice their English but to have fun and know more about our faith. We had people coming over for a week, few days and others stayed the whole month with us! Thank you for giving up part of your summer to come and serve at Mexico, you all were a true blessing for all of us!

Pastor Jey Kim also held a three day conference for the 2023 Revival Worship which was an event to remind our students, teachers and missionaries about God’s love and calling. We learned a lot and many hearts were brought to Jesus.

At the end of the month we had Laurel Church who focused on Bible studies and sharing experiences about careers to inspire our students to study different majors with a realistic perspective. This was a great opportunity for our students to know people working on the field they are interested on and see it from a different perspective.

Last but not least, Raleigh Church came all the way to Chiapas bringing our very much missed T. Eunsu Kim along with them to do field missions at a small village near our campus. They brought medical service and Summer Bible School for the kids. Thank you for your heart of service and thanks to our alumni who joined to translate on the field.

Regional Spelling Contest

Ichthus was the host for 2023 Spanish Regional Spelling Contest in which schools from nearby cities attended to compete. Our teachers decorated the school and prepared gifts for the attendants. Each participant was introduced, we sang the Mexican anthem, T.Isis gave a speech about the importance of knowing our grammar and our Middle School Body Worship Team performed a special dance. This is a great opportunity to remind every one the importance of reading to improve our grammar! So, grab a book and do not let it go.

Vision Trip

After years of pandemic, our Vision Trip finally made it back! Our most recent High School alumni had the chance to visit Canada to experience a new country, culture and system in order to widen their perspective and helping them see there is much more to learn and see. They visited museums, schools, churches, different cities and even the Niagara falls to have the full experience!

This trip was originally done to the USA, however, due to restrictions after Covid and its consequences, obtaining a Visa is harder than ever before, nontheless it was not a hindrance for our students to have a great experience traveling abroad. Let us all remember that a life without a vision is an empty one, follow your dreams and make them happen.

At the end of the month our high schoolers went off to start their Summer vacations, we will see them on August 7th to keep preparing to become future Christian leaders. July will be a month with more visitors and our Elementary and Middle Schoolers will continue classes until July 19th.

Thank you all who participated in this amazing summer and we hope we can have many more visitors next time!

Thank you for your prayers and donations to make every event possible.

God bless you all!
